2 Year Anniversary

This past week we celebrated our two-year anniversary. Two years! Can you believe it has already been two years? Crazy.

This year we mainly celebrated in August by going to The Homestead. I’m so glad that we did this in August rather than now because I bet we would have had to drive in the snow. I have become a bit paranoid when it comes to driving in the snow . . . which I’m going to blame on my mommy senses (whether that is true or not).

So we celebrated on our anniversary by going out to dinner. We were going to go to the Cheesecake Factory, but it was snowing, and I didn’t want to drive an hour in the snow. We decided to go to a restaurant in Provo instead, so we choose Los Hermanos. It was way good. I should have taken pictures of how big the portions were, but I got so excited for the food, that I only have a picture of my dish after I was full.

HUGE Nachos

And I ate a good amount of it.

We also got dessert, and I randomly really wanted a churro, and so they brought out this monster-

(The food in the cup . . . not Ken. Har har har)

It was delectable.

Anyway, these past two years have been the best years of my life! On December 18, 2010 I married the most compassionate, loving man, and I am so grateful that he is in my life! Thanks for putting up with me.

Come on Little Kenny . . .

Want to know the best Birthday present a pregnant lady can get on her Birthday? Labor.

Want to know the second best Birthday present a pregnant lady can get? Progress towards labor.

Yep, I had a doctor’s appointment today, and I am “progressing nicely” towards labor. Last week my doctor was very impressed that I was dilated to a 2 at 36 weeks, and now that I’m at 37 weeks I’m at a 3! Yessssssss. She said that he is “very low”, and said that they never make guesses when the baby will come, but she hinted strongly that he will probably come . . . soon. I’m suppose to have another doctors appointment in a week, and she said see you then . . . or in the hospital. Woohoo!

I’m trying not to get too excited, but let’s be real. I’m ecstatic. I know I should probably just plan on him waiting until I’m 40 weeks to come, but it has been so uncomfortable  lately that it makes it so easy to wish for him to come early.

Side story: When I was younger, I used to be pretty bitter that my Birthday was two days after Christmas. I was jealous of the other kids who had two separate opportunities to get presents and to celebrate. I always thought that I had gotten the short end of the stick because people would combine Christmas/Birthday presents and my Birthday would be overshadowed by the other holidays. When I was 17, I found out that my parents induced me on the 27th of December. I was actually supposed to be a January baby. My parents were able to get a major tax break, and they admitted that was a contributing factor in their decision to induce me.

When I found this out, I couldn’t believe it! Now that I’m in the same boat, it sounds very enticing. . . and not just for the tax break. I am ready to be done with pregnancy. So if you want to find me today, I will just be walking non-stop at the gym trying to “induce” labor on my own. :)

Oh, and here is a picture of Ken and I on Christmas-

We realized that we don’t really have any pictures of us together plus the pregnant belly.

37 Weeks

37 Weeks

Here’s to 37 weeks and being considered full term! Woohoo!

The doctor on Monday said that I’m already dilated to a two. She said that this doesn’t necessarily mean he will come early, but I would be lying if I said that I haven’t gotten my hopes up that he will be early.

So no real updates this week. I am pregnant, and I feel pregnant. Oh, and I sent Ken out to get something at the store for me for the first time. I haven’t done that the whole pregnancy, but he went and got me Gatorade because I wasn’t feeling very well earlier this week. What a guy. :)

35 Weeks

35 Weeks

Here’s 35 weeks!

It has become pretty uncomfortable trying to walk to/from school. As a result, people give me what I call “the smile”. The smile is people’s way of saying, “wow, you look ridiculous waddling around and trying to walk up those stairs, but keep up the good work.” Or at least that’s how I interpret it. People have been smiling at me way more than usual at BYU (which is saying something because people smile a lot at BYU already).

Speaking of, I am now an official BYU alumna!!! I took my last final two hours ago. To be honest, I’m kinda sad. I’m going to miss BYU and the opportunity to formally learn. I really enjoyed being a college student. Thankfully, I am able to work at my job during the Christmas break still (3 weeks people! And since I finished my finals early, it’s more like 4!). I’ll be working until January 4 (but we’ll see if that actually happens since I am due January 13).

It’s really weird that two big pieces of my life are coming to a close. I have been going to school since I was 3 (JoySchool! woohoo!), and I got my first job(s) when I was 12 (referring soccer and teaching dance/gymnastics). I know I am going to miss work, too.

Oh well! Something better is coming along! :)

Cerealsplosion!! (Noticing a trend yet?)

If you haven’t noticed yet, we like to spill things around the Alford household. This morning’s specialty was Rachel’s bowl full of cinnamon toast crunch and milk…in our bedroom. As usual on Sunday mornings, I got Rachel’s breakfast for her while she was getting ready for church. In typical Rachel style, she took her breakfast into the bedroom to eat while going through dozens of potential outfits. Okay, maybe now it’s only half a dozen potential outfits because the pregnant belly rules out some potential candidates, but I digress. From the bathroom I heard Rachel scream, and based on the tone/pitch of the scream I instantly knew that her cereal spilled (I can’t imagine why, considering how secure her cereal bowl was on top of our dresser).

Teetering Cereal Bowl

Looking at the expression on her face confirmed my suspicion, as well as the exploded cereal all over the floor. This picture was after over half of it had been cleaned up!

Good thing I remembered to capture this beauty before all of it was cleaned up.

Thankfully most of the milk ended up on our bags or the top of that container, which spared the rug. I think Rachel is secretly getting me ready for children and the messes they will make. Unfortunately I didn’t have the best reaction to Rachel’s accident this morning, so I know that events like this are good training for how to handle kids’ messiness in the future :)

Baby Shower

You know what’s awesome? When your sister is willing to drive four hours to throw you a baby shower. Now that’s a good sister. Plus, she had the cutest decorations!

You know what else is awesome? That Stacy made all of the food and was willing to let us use her place.

Tracey also organized some fun games. I only got a couple of the games documented, though.

We did pin the mustache on the baby-

And guess what candy bar is melted into the diaper-

And as always, it was good to see friends!

Best picture of the day, though?

Nothing out of the ordinary.

So not as bad as milk exploding everywhere, but I can’t pass up an opportunity to document one of Ken’s messes.

One day Ken went to the grocery store. It was raining and while loading the bags into the trunk, one of them fell onto the ground. When he got home, he noticed that one of the yogurts had exploded inside the grocery bags because of the fall. Of course, it got on the only item that has a paper covering . . . the 10 pound sack of flour, which also had a few wounds from the impact with the asphalt. We decided to transfer the flour into Ziploc bags. Ken was pouring it while I was holding the Ziploc, and then BAM.  Flour all over the floor. Apparently, pouring flour from a wet, torn flour bag isn’t the best idea. Who knew? Unfortunately, we were in a hurry to leave somewhere, so we had to walk through the flour until I could clean it up later that night.

I think these “minor” messes are preparing me for kids.

P.S. Little baby Kenny is only 5 weeks away from making his appearance. :)
